MOVIE REVIEW

If you can overlook the shoddy sets, painted backdrops, lousy dubbing, and mediocre scriptwork, Tomorrowland is actually a halfway decent and somewhat watchable little flick. It starts out in rip roaring fashion, with our hero (genre veteran George Cloonney) watching an out of control man rip the bodice from a struggling girl from an alternate dimension called Tomorrowland. Incensed by this brutality and no doubt offended by the film's one and only true PG- 13 scene, she rams her fist through a brick wall and kills the man with mannikin magic!

MOVIE REVIEW

I really wanted to like this, it ticks the boxes (plot wise) of what I like. However, it is truly terrible without any redeeming features. It's like a bunch of vacant morons from Sloane Square just said "Yah, we should totally make a game of thrones style film". The acting is beyond bad. The direction and editing is just awful.

I'm partial to a 'mediocre, bit of fun' film but this is not that. I always want to like Clive Owen, he has a face that could be great for film but there is just no substance to his acting. Ever.

Even Morgan Freeman struggles in this. I truly believe that the look of contempt on his face in the film is for what he's taking part in. He's not acting, he's thinking of firing his agent.

Peter Jackson gave this movie a new twist. I 've seen the old King Kong movies and they're quite great, but this one is exceptional!! The actors and actress Naomi gave the movie its own character and distinct traits from the original story. It fits them so well, but the most remarkable in this movie is KONG. Peter made the beast look like a real, living gorilla, only it's 25 feet tall. The actor who portrayed Kong is great. He gives the beast life, not just its brute strength and uncanny agility, but a heart of beast that is longing for a companion. In his eyes you can see the soul that suffers from the savagery of the island, but his love for Ann, he finds his way to conquer it. MOVIE REVIEW

3 extremes were 3 short stories about extreme situations. Each story has very different qualities and gave the viewer something to enjoy. Not American style, scream queen, psychobabble laden horror films. More intellectual and artistic as the characters are made to look good rather than deviant. Shorts were you can turn off the subtitles and still understand the plot are hard to come by, but these fit the bill. I wish I could speak the languages of the films because the English translation detracted from the emotional content and context. If you like slasher movies and jump out of your seat scary, pass on these. If you like more artistic, intelligent, and subtle horror films, then these shorts are for you. Some blood and minor amounts of gore. A job well done.

MOVIE REVIEW

Shortly after a number of strange cases begin to appear at the hospital where Ana (Sarah Polley) works, a bizarre zombie "epidemic" hits the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area full force. Sarah escapes her immediate threats and meets a number of other humans who decide to seek shelter inside a large shopping mall. As they learn that the zombie outbreak is much more widespread than anyone could have imagined, their chances of survival grow increasingly dim.

I know an awful lot of genre fans rail against remakes, but like the update of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), this version of Dawn of the Dead is so good that we should instead be clamoring for more.

Writer James Gunn and director Zack Snyder knew that they had to come into the remake with both barrels blasting. Hardly five minutes into the film we're already into hardcore, high tension, gore-filled horror material. In lesser films, our introduction to full-fledged zombie activity would have been dream material as a kind of teaser. Gunn and Snyder dispense with such weak-willed tactics and immediately launch into Armageddon. We quickly move to a wide shot of explosions, brutal car crashes and other mayhem.

We do finally get a breather while we're learning our cast of characters at the mall in nicely written scenes that bring out personality and depth to the relatively large cast, but horror fanatics need not fret that the film will evolve into a drama--tension and gore are never far removed from the film.

Gunn and Snyder earn credit for both paying homage to their source material and taking off into other interesting directions. This remake is just as intense and titillating as Romeo's original, but with a different spin.

MOVIE REVIEW

This is what I wrote to some friends earlier:

HOLY CRAP, The Grudge is, honest to God, one of the scariest films I've ever seen! I am either getting very soft in my old age, or Sam Raimi and Ghost Pictures did a KICK A** job! (Can't wait for Boogeyman!)

I was very scared sitting in the dark theater and wished I had someone, anyone, sitting next to me (except the protagonist in Grudge. I saw the movie by myself.) I swear, there were many many jump scenes that were NOT expected! I felt foolish but my nerves did not care! I was on edge the entire movie, from the opening credits, and the music was fantastically scary. I keep thinking of that sound, though, and I DO NOT LIKE IT!

I actually gasped aloud a few times, and cried, "oh" at one scene!! Oh, yeah, I even half-covered my eyes a few times! Word to the wise, though: I thought some of the scenes were a little psychotic. My DH hated Event Horizon and thought whoever wrote it was sick and psycho, but I don't remember the movie so can't compare.

I can't say I "enjoyed" this movie b/c I was terrified, but it was very very good and scary. The ending scene, too...whoa! For being a 32-year-old-mommy, I think I may have nightmares from this movie, especially because of that sound. Please get out of my head ;)

In summary, this is not a slasher flick like I grew up with (Jason, Freddy). This is a most-of-the-time spooky movie. Perfect for Halloween.

MOVIE REVIEW

Well, I was pretty bored, looking deeply a good horror movie to watch and I found a web page about that movie. I said to myself "What the heck, I like strong woman woman, so I'll give a try. And the poster is cool".

I wasn't prepare to watch such a good movie. If you liked "Female Convict 701", that great director Kurando Mitsutake pay a great tribute to pink violence movies.

Everything, in this movie is well done. The plot is simple but very well written and narrated. Actions scenes are nice and character are nicely described.

In a few words : "Here is a nice old fashion Japanese revenge movie".

Warning : Some will consider the picture quality as "cheap", so if you want to watch this movie, open your minds to independent low budget movies. If you like blockbusters and tremendous special effects, that movie is not for you. You've been warned :) That movie is like a raw and rare jewel, take care.
